March 2022 Paving
On March 2, 2022, workers began asphalt paving on eastbound I-10 south of Baseline Road.
The Interstate 10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project will add a fourth general purpose lane in each direction between Ray Road and US 60.
Did you know asphalt is not the roadway on which we drive? Asphalt is the sticky, semi-solid form of petroleum used to bind aggregate (small rocks) together to form asphaltic pavement.
The asphalt serves as the base layer. Portland Cement Concrete Pavement will be placed on the asphalt.
Workers use a roller to compact the asphalt as part of the paving process.
