January 2022 Drilled Shafts
On Dec. 20, 2021, crews began drilling the drilled-shaft foundation for the new 48th Street bridges over I-10.
The 48th Street bridges over I-10 will have drilled shafts ranging in diameter from 72 to 120 inches.
The 48th Street bridges over I-10 will have 10 drilled-shaft foundations: five per bridge, with each one approximately 50 to 60 feet deep
Crews tied rebar into steel cages that are then lifted with a crane, lowered into a drilled shaft and filled with concrete.
